What You Can Do Here
The Media Lab provides patrons with the assistance, skills, and tools they need to create and edit a variety of media. You can:
- SCAN photos and documents
- EDIT photos with Adobe Photoshop
- DIGITIZE slides, photos, and VHS tapes
- EDIT videos with iMovie or Final Cut Pro
- PRODUCE slideshow presentations in Keynote, PowerPoint, or iMovie
- CREATE custom, personalized books and notecards in Shutterfly or Canva
- DESIGN flyers, brochures, and graphics with Adobe Creative Cloud programs
- COMPOSE music with our 49-Key M-Audio Keyboard and edit with GarageBand or Logic Pro

Media Lab policies
- The Media Lab is open to all Lake Forest Library cardholders aged 13 and older in groups of five or fewer. If your library card is expired or blocked, you must resolve the issues before using the Media Lab.
- Patrons aged 13–18 can use the Media Lab only when an assistant or librarian is available.
- You can make a Media Lab appointment online or by calling 847.234.0636.
- Appointments can last up to 2 hours. Your reservation will be held for 15 minutes before being given up. Extensions are possible if no one else is waiting.
- Patrons are limited to one 2-hour appointment per week.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the Media Lab.
- The Media Lab is reserved specifically for the use of the hardware and software available only in the space. Patrons may use public computers for all other purposes. The Media Lab is not to be used as an office space or telephone room.
- Patrons who know how to use equipment can use the Media Lab in off-hours on a drop-in basis. Patrons must sign a waiver to use the space unattended and cannot expect one-on-one assistance during this time.
- Patrons may not use the Canon Rebel Camera Kits or the Oculus Quest VR Headsets unattended.
- All patrons participating in the use of virtual reality must sign a waiver. Participants under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
