6th Annual Service Day Connects Deer Path Middle School Students With Community

Deer Path eighth-graders dedicate day to community service
For the past six years the eighth grade class at Deer Path Middle School has continued the tradition of volunteering around Lake County as part of its Community Service Day. This year 231 eighth-graders volunteered on Friday, Oct. 13, as part of its Community Service Day, which will help the students achieve their goal of participating in 2,018 hours of community service before they graduate eighth grade.
Students were broken up into groups and spent the day volunteering at a variety of locations in Lake County including Bernie’s Book Bank, Boys and Girls Club of Lake County, Fill a Heart 4 Kids, Lake Forest Library and Ragdale. Students helped out with a variety of things such as storing books, painting, cleaning tables, organization, putting together gift bags and more.
Camp out at the beach brings families together for night of fun
During the event residents enjoyed story time put on by the Lake Forest Library, movie on the beach, astronomy with Skokie Valley Astronomers, s’mores at the campfire and catered food. The Wildlife Discover Center also put an animal show for children and families. Carmichael said many families also bring additional entertainment such as beach volleyball and bags.
League of Women Voters of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area Supports National Voter Registration Day, Tues. Sept 26
The League of Women Voters of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area is taking part in National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register thousands of voters on Tuesday, September 26th. Registration will be available in several locations including Lake Forest Library.
Lecture: Lake Forest's Ghost Train Line
Lake Forest Library, in conjunction with the North Shore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation, is hosting an historical slide show and talk by Arthur Miller. Miller's talk will focus on the fascinating tale of the two train lines, almost side-by-side, that led to the development of downtown Lake Forest.
