Take the Library On Your Travels

Did you know that the Library offers more than just packable paperback books for your travels? Whether you're taking a family road trip, traveling internationally, or still planning your next adventure, we have resources to help you along the way.

Before your trip, make sure to:

  • Read up on your destination with travel books upstairs which start in the 900s. We have guides from Albania to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between.
  • Download Hoopla to access on demand travel ebooks, movies, music, and audiobooks anywhere in the world.
  • Download Libby and Cloud Library to read ebooks on your devices and listen to audiobooks wherever you may be.
  • Learn words and phrases with Mango and Muzzy Online (for kids) which gives Library cardholders access to over 70 language learning modules.
  • Visit the "Audio" Room at the library which houses books on CD and Playaways. These items are perfect for long car rides with family.

Traveling internationally? We have:

  • Pocket dictionaries and phrasebooks upstairs in the 400s.
  • International travel adapters that are compatible in over 150 countries so you never have to run out of battery.
  • DSLR cameras and GoPros so that you can capture special moments.

Traveling locally? Check out these resources:

  • Hotspots that can connect up to 5 devices and work anywhere T-Mobile services in the 50 states.
  • Rokus with access to AcornTV, Disney+, Hulu, and Max that you can stream wherever you stay.
  • The Museum Adventure Pass allows you to receive admission (or special discounts) at participating Chicago area cultural destinations. To get started, visit a service desk at the Library.
  • Explore More Illinois gives Lake Forest Library card holders instant online access to free and discounted tickets to museums, science centers, sporting events, zoos, park districts, theaters, and other fun and local cultural venues. Print your own passes or visit a service desk at the Library.
  • Browse our large selection of US travel books upstairs, starting with the 917 call numbers. We have everything from the best scenic drives and hiking in America to pocket guides for popular cities to traveling with kids.

Lastly, did you know that you can:

  • Use the Lake Forest Library app or call the Library to have your holds suspended until you return so you don't lose your place in line?
  • Copy, scan, and fax important travel documents using the Library's equipment?
  • Attend some of our programs remotely through Zoom and catch up on recorded ones on the Library's YouTube channel?
