Register and join us in person at Lake Forest Library for a writing workshop with Dawn Turner, author of Three Girls from Bronzeville: A Uniquely American Memoir of Race, Fate, and Sisterhood.
We often hear people describe something that’s not too difficult as, “It’s not brain surgery.” Dawn Turner likes to say, “It’s not writing.” Dawn has written fiction and nonfiction and with both she's always wondering: "Have I done enough research? Am I asking the right questions? Does the work meet the moment? Sometimes, instead of pounding my computer keys, I feel like I’m clinging to the side of a mountain, trying to discern when to climb and when to let go." It’s not an uncommon feeling among authors. Join us to talk about the demands of writing as Dawn shares a few strategies she uses to work through the thickets.
Book signing to follow. Attendees will receive a journal and pen from the Library.
This event is part of Read Between the Ravines, the joint nonfiction reading program from Lake Forest Library and Lake Bluff Public Library. To learn more, visit our Read Between page.
