Michelle Kadarusman is an internationally published children’s author. Her books feature themes of self-empowerment, friendship, nature and celebrating differences. Her first middle grade novel, The Theory of Hummingbirds, was inspired in part by her experience of having a childhood disability. Her second novel, Girl of the Southern Sea, set in her father's homeland of Indonesia, was a Governor General's Literary Award finalist and Malka Penn Book Award for Human Rights in Children's Literature Honor Book. Her most recent novel, Music for Tigers, is a 2021 USBBY Outstanding International Book, 2020 Washington Post KidsPost book-club selection and named a Kirkus Best Books of 2020. She lives in Toronto, Canada, and Byron Bay, Australia.
