New Book Dramatization by Barbara Rinella

The Art Forger

B. A. Shapiro

What a fascinating event in history clever author Barbara Shapiro has chosen to be the inspiration for her wonderful new novel, The Art Forger!  Instantly, the focus is on the  Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and the March 18, 1990, robbery of $500 million worth of fabulous art that has never been solved.  How spectacular to use fiction to create questions and discoveries, and to immerse one into the world of art, artists and great paintings, especially by Degas.  Barbara Rinella can’t wait to become struggling artist, Claire Roth, as she works hard to use her fine painting skills to paint reproductions of famous works of art.  She is a talented artist, but has not really been discovered.  Why are her beautiful paintings overlooked while her artist boyfriend’s paintings are chosen to be featured at MOMA (The Muesum of Modern Art) in New York City?  How will Claire respond when jealousy rears its ugly head? How will she respond when the most famous art dealer in Boston comes to offer her a terrific financial deal that is dishonest?  Does it involve a painting from the horrible art heist at the Gardner museum? What are Claire’s choices?

As Claire does research into the stolen paintings, she uncovers a relative of famous Isabella Steward Gardner, who has letters from the woman herself! These amazing  letters create one of the best elements of this fabulous novel!  Belle Gardner comes alive…the Boston Brahmin who rejected proper behavior and shocked Boston, even walking pet lions down the street and enjoying a fine relationship with the artist Degas, himself! What a story Belle has to tell!  Oh, do you think Barbara Rinella might take us back in time to 1886 to become the power woman and art lover herself?  Will her letters help in any way to solve a crime? This is art history, mystery and imagination at its very best!  Claire and Belle can’t wait to have you join them on their journey!
